CHALLENGE
In 1996, then NASA Administrator Dan Goldin issued a challenge to Stennis Space Center, MS to become the lead center for Commercial Remote Sensing applications. A technology that was once reserved for the government would now be available to the private sector. The challenge was explaining a very complicated technology and its benefits to the public from an industry most had never heard of. The structure of the lead agency consisted of an array of vastly different organizations- 36 private companies, 4 state agencies, and academia. All of the organizations needed to be branded in a cohesive manner under one umbrella ultimately culminating in the growth of a new industrystriesstry.
SOLUTION
By capitalizing on the strengths that each organization brought to the development of the new industry, the synergy began to evolve organically. Finding new, creative ways of explaining the real world applications for this complicated technology was the first step in educating and informing the public. Each of the private sector companies were very different, but solved multiple problems. Ultimately, they were all branded under one name and one identity. Collectively, they were stronger as a unified group with a unified voice. We provided all the tools for the brand to be built from the ground up. The effort included the production of a film, website, brochures, print advertisements, business journal editorials, & press releases.
RESULTS
Today, the industry is a recognized as a powerful engine for economic development and growth. A vast number of industries are benefitting from the technology, including: bankers, farmers, realtors, marketing firms, police, first responders, foresters, fishermen, educators, transportation planners, public health officials, media, & weather services…just to name a few.
